If you want to see Christina Hendricks in her underwear, too late! Mad Men star treats theatregoers to one last tantalizing show

She might be the female sex symbol of the hit TV series, but you never get to see Joan Holloway in her pointy and starched undies.

However, away from the smoke-filled advertising agency offices of Manhattan, actress Christina Hendricks has no problem displaying her famous voluptuous figure in a light cotton chemise, as she had been doing for the past few nights.

But fans rushing down to the Avery Fisher Hall to catch a glimpse of the redheaded beauty in her flimsy cotton nightie will be left disappointed and out of luck - as the curtain finally fell on Miss Hendricks and her skimpy attire.

The actress, 35, has been starring alongside a stellar line-up in the New York Philharmonic production of Stephen Sondheim's musical Company.

Christina plays a ditsy and naive airline stewardess called April, who sleeps with the main character, self-confirmed bachelor Robert, played by Neil Patrick Harris.

And in the scene where she goes back to Robert's apartment for a 'night cap', Hendricks strips down to the white chemise, which clings to her curves in all the right places.

But Saturday saw her do it for the last time, as the musical performed its final night after a short four-night run.

The musical took place at the Avery Fisher Hall, the home of the New York Philharmonic, and part of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts complex.

The musical centres round Robert, who is unable to commit to a serious relationship, let alone marriage, and the five married couples who are his best friends, and his three girlfriends.

Glee and Doogie Howser star Patrick Harris plays Robert and he and Christina were joined by Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer, Martha Plimpton and Patti LuPone.

Interestingly, and in a telling sign of the times, no one of the cast were able to rehearse together because of their busy schedules and had to rely on technology to help them learn their parts.

Patrick Harris learned the music from listening to MP3s and Cryer is believed to have memorised his choreography by watching it on his iPhone.

Reviews of the show, which was filmed for a special cinema release this summer, were mixed but Christina was praised for her performance.

Stephen Holden from the New York Times said she was the 'discovery' of the production and added: 'While April is a dumbed-down caricature of Joan Harris, her role on Mad Men, Ms. Hendricks reconfigures her as a gushy, hyper-enthusiastic bimbo; her singing was serviceable'

And Jonathan Mandel from the Faster Times said: 'Christina Hendricks was a revelation as the none-too-bright airline stewardess April, one of Robert’s pick-ups. She had both perfect comic timing and a real voice.'
